you don't know for sure what you're getting until you've had a good rain. Even good conemaips occassionally need to fix their work. There was one spot they needed to fix and because he paid everything up front, the company was not in a hurry to come and fix that part.I have also found that i can get great advice on which people to use for anything roofing, plumbing, electrical, etc. that the people at my local hardware store know who's really good and who isn't because they hear it all from their customers. But then, i'm in a small town and it's an independent hardware store. The people at the church also knew who was good and who wasn't because they had four buildings and had used lots of local contractors until they found ones that were great and they'd go back to them again and again, so you might try asking your church secretary for a recommendation, too.

I live in the Falmouth Maine area. I recently purachsed a home with a low sloped roof and it is leaking. I was hoping to get some advice on how to repair the leak myself. Here is the situation: The roof is a low sloped dormer with a shed roof. It only leaks in winter when snow is present and the days are warm and nights are cold. I assume the ice is backing up under the the three tab shingles. I was hoping I could tear the three tabs off and Grace Ice and Water Shield the entire roof deck and use architectural shingles instead of rolled roofing. I really don't like the looks of rolled roofing and the roof is seen often, as it downhill of the road. Please give me your comments on the pros and cons of what I would like to do. ThanksMark

Thank for the post. This could not have come at a better time. I just noecitd I am missing about three shingles on my roof. There is some linking but not enough to be concerned other than I need to get it fixed. The roof is about 15 years old and has a fair amount of moss on the eaves. My question for the board is should I try and fix the roof and squeeze a few more years out of the roof or should I take the missing shingles as a sign of the things to come. I can afford to buy a new roof. Obviously noodybwants a new roof , but it would make the house look nice. Any advice is welcome. Ashley.
